Hi team,

I recently setup free version of CloudPanel for a client and am having issues setting up ADSync.

After setting ADSync on CloudPanel and installing agent on server, there seems to be no communication between them and therefore no users being populated.

Checking against error logs, I get the below:

Error syncing AD users: System.Exception: Unable to access ADSync settings from CloudPanel: [NotFound]
at CloudPanel.SyncService.Helpers.ServiceManager.GetADSyncSettings()
at CloudPanel.SyncService.Tasks.SendADUsers.Execute(IJobExecutionContext context)

Error sending support notification to CloudPanel: System.Exception: Unable to access ADSync settings from CloudPanel: [NotFound]
at CloudPanel.SyncService.Helpers.ServiceManager.GetADSyncSettings()
at CloudPanel.SyncService.Helpers.NotificationsManager.ExecuteRequest(String subject, String message)

I have CloudPanel hosted on the DC it is also meant to sync with, but should this pose a problem?

Many thanks,

Jared

The purpose of ADSync is to sync a separate domain environment with your CloudPanel instance. So you would not install the ADSync agent on the environment that CloudPanel is managing. What you may be looking for (correct me if I'm wrong) is the article ( https://kb.knowmoreit.com/docs/migration/migrate-objects-to-cloudpanel/ ) to import objects from Active Directory that CloudPanel is installed on into the CloudPanel database. We charge for this service if we were to do it for you but this article should get you started on how you can import objects but you still must follow the getting started guide to make sure Active Directory is configured properly and ready for CloudPanel

Hi Jacob,

You might be right and I misunderstood the purpose for ADSync. For Migration could it still sync changes from CloudPanel to the AD and vice versa?

@jjb1989 The CloudPanel Service will sync some of the changes and attributes you made in the local AD to the CloudPanel database but the ADSync tool won't for the same environment. If you create let's say "Customer A" in CloudPanel for your email environment and they happen to have a local domain controller on-site that is completely separated from your environment, you would then install ADSync on their local domain controller to capture password changes and sync the user's attributes. That is the purpose of the ADSync.

@jdixon Noted thanks.

So on my occasion, where CloudPanel is setup on customer's own AD and Exchange environment, I have no use for ADSync, but the migration tool. I shall give that a shot and see how it goes. Many thanks for your quick response Jacob! 🙂

@jjb1989 Correct, ADSync would not benefit you here. Be sure to install the CloudPanel Service though because it will keep some of the Active Directory attributes in sync with the database but it is still best practice to manage everything through the CloudPanel GUI And not do a lot on the backend.
